The Piercing Calendar

Most piercing regrets aren’t about the piercing itself. They’re about timing. I never knew when I started my piercing business in Lurgan that I'd see such a cyclical calendar throughout the year! It's so interesting to see when the trends peak and trough through the calendar year. There's times when every second piercing is a child's ear lobes, at other times it's naval after naval after naval - then come the nostrils! Here's my guide on the best times to get a piercing!
Belly button piercings are a classic example. They need around six months before holidays, swimming, and summer clothing truly feel comfortable. Leaving it until spring almost guarantees frustration. So choose wisely - and plan well ahead. It's also fair to say that the initial piercing jewellery included on a naval piercing is much more functional than it is designer - so allow time for that upgrade before you don your bikini for the first time.
Nostril piercings are another common one. While they heal well, they need a minimum of eight weeks before safely changing to a hoop. That matters if you have an event, a photoshoot, or simply a specific look in mind. We see loads of nostril piercings around September time.
Children’s first ear piercings are often rushed into the last weeks of summer. In reality, June is ideal. It gives enough healing time before school uniforms, sports, and backpacks start interfering. Less stress for everyone involved - including the teachers. The last few weeks running up to Christmas could be dubbed "nipple season" - don't ask me why...
Piercing isn’t impulsive when it’s done well. It’s planned, even if the decision feels spontaneous. Understanding timelines turns piercing from a reaction into a considered choice.
Good timing doesn’t just improve healing. It improves the entire experience.
