Gold is the New Silver

For a long time, silver-toned jewellery was the default in piercing. It was neutral, familiar, and largely unquestioned. But quietly, steadily, gold has taken over.
Not gold as in “luxury for special occasions”, but gold as an everyday choice. Warm, softer against the skin, and far more considered. I see it daily. People aren’t just choosing a piercing anymore, they’re choosing a look.
From a professional piercing perspective, nothing has changed where it matters most. We still pierce exclusively with implant-grade titanium. It’s the safest option for healing, consistency, and longevity. What has changed is the finish. Titanium can now be anodised into a huge range of gold tones, from pale champagne through to rich yellow gold, without compromising safety.
That shift matters. It means clients no longer have to choose between health and aesthetics. First piercings no longer look temporary or clinical. They look intentional from day one.
Gold-toned jewellery also sits more comfortably in professional and formal spaces. It reads softer, more refined, less confrontational than the sharp silver look many people still associate with piercing culture. That perception shift has quietly opened doors, particularly for people who want piercings that integrate into their wider life, not sit apart from it.
What I find most interesting is that gold hasn’t replaced silver. It’s reframed the conversation. Jewellery is no longer an afterthought once something heals. It’s part of the decision from the start. Piercing has moved closer to styling, and further away from rebellion for rebellion’s sake.
That feels like growth, not dilution.
